OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE AND SAFETY TECHNICIAN

Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technicians (OHST) are persons who perform occupational hygiene and safety activities on a full-time or part-time basis as part of their job duties. Some examples of occupational hygiene and safety activities are making worksite assessments to determine risks, potential hazards and controls, evaluating risks and hazard control measures, investigating incidents, maintaining and evaluating incident and loss records, and preparing emergency response plans.

Exam

BCSP’s examination provider, Pearson VUE, has hundreds of test centers located around the world, which are open every business day (some also have weekend and holiday hours). Examinations are delivered via computer at the test center. As soon as candidates submit their exam, results are available.

BCSP recommends you complete the tutorial at the beginning of the exam to help familiarize yourself with the computer-delivered examination process. When you are ready to begin, you will sign on. You must agree to comply with BCSP’s examination security and non-disclosure rules. Once you complete these steps, your examination clock starts.

  • Discuss each of the exam domains
  • Complete in class activities for each domain

STRATEGIES FOR STUDYING FOR THE EXAM

  • Discuss the importance of studying and taking the practice tests at least six weeks prior to taking the actual exam
  • Develop a study plan

MATH REVIEW

  • Overview of mathematics review course
  • Basic math skills assessment
  • Present math topics and demonstrate how to solve problems
  • Use of the TI-30X IIS Scientific calculator
  • Test taking skills

Entry Requirement

  • Will have three (3) years of experience in occupational health or safety.
  • Must pass the OHST examination.
